"Croeso i Aberaeron." Welcome to Aberaeron. Aberaeron is situated on the main A487 road from Aberystwyth to Cardigan at the mouth of the River Aeron. The town was born in 1807 when Parliament allowed a harbour to be built. Ships were built here and Aberaeron was home to many ships returning laden with exotic gifts from around the world. 2007 is Aberaeron's bicentenary year and there are many additional heritage events to see with the main Festival week running from 28th July to 4 August. It's worth pulling off the busy street to have a look round. The views looking back from the sea with the boats in the harbour and brightly coloured houses on the river banks are worth a photograph and there is a complex of Welsh craft shops if you explore up the hill.
