Applecross Peninsula
|
Applecross is on the West Coast of Scotland in an area known as the Applecross Peninsula. It is one of the remotest parts of Britain and it only became possible to drive all around the coast from the mid 1970s. For the most part this is single track so leave extra time for your journey and don't expect your mobile phone to work here. There is only one shop in Applecross, which must make Applecross High Street the smallest anywhere. We make up for this with some pictures to tease your imagination. Not pictured is the campsite, which also has a bakery and its own tearoom. |

The wilderness of the area provides a natural habitat for deer, otter, pine martens, seals, porpoises, birds and plants. Why not try one of the many walks, kayaking or plant walks? For those that prefer their nature tamed, there is the Art & Craft Trail that takes you to places like Croft Wools and Shards Stained Glass. |

The Heritage Centre is a recent addition to the things to see in Applecross. The area has a rich history and the centre is well worth a visit. The area has been featured on the BBC Alan Titchmarsh series, British Isles: A Natural History. | |

The Applecross Inn is a focal point for the community. The food here is superb and has been featured by many pub writers. The view of the bay from the pub is fantastic and must count as one of the best pub sea views anywhere. The Potting Shed restaurant in the Walled Garden provides a second excellent place to enjoy fresh, home-cooked food. | |
