Large Google map of Ely High St. |
Ely is 12m (20km) North of Cambridge. Sitting in the heart of the Fens it was originally an island surrounded by lowland fen water. Dominating the skyline is Ely Cathedral, one of the biggest cathedrals in England. Ely itself was one of the country's smallest cities but is rapidly expanding and this is reflected in the growing number of shops and businesses along High Street and Market Street. Oliver Cromwell lived in Ely for many years and his house is now open to the public and is home to the Ely Tourist Information Centre. More about Ely can be found on the East Cambridgeshire website, or this local one for Ely. |
